“International White Scar Center” Established: White Scar Color Regeneration Takes Center Stage Globally

《Press Release》

“International White Scar Day” Established and “International White Scar Treatment Organized”

Dr. Su-Ben Tsao, a senior plastic surgeon in Taiwan, announced the establishment of the ‘International White Scar Center’ on September 28, 2023, which coincides with Teacher’s Day. He has also designated June 29th, the birthday of his revered mentor, Dr. Noordhoff, as ‘International White Scar Day,’ in order to honor the legacy and continue the spirit of ‘Love makes whole,’ allowing love to be passed on.   The International White Scar Center is a functional organizational structure that starts with the question, “Why does the world need the International White Scar Center?” It aims to promote a better world through the sharing of new knowledge in white scar treatment. To achieve this, it will operate through two main approaches:

  1. International White Scar Organization: This platform will facilitate the exchange and sharing of white scar medical knowledge and publish digital publications for the purpose of knowledge exchange and sharing.
  2. International White Scar Day: This initiative will encourage internet users worldwide to spread information, love, and care on International White Scar Day. It aims to share better medical solutions with those in need.

Dr. Su-Ben Tsao noted that white scars have long been regarded as an incurable condition, causing a lifetime of heartache for those affected. He was motivated to develop the first-generation White Scar Color Regeneration technique in 2000, which garnered global attention when he presented it at an international medical conference in 2016. The White Scar Color Regeneration Technique 1.0 and 2.0 papers were respectively published in January 2019 and July 2021 in the top-ranked academic journal in the global aesthetic plastic surgery field, Aesthetic Surgery Journal, as measured by its Impact Factor. Aesthetic Surgery Journal is the official journal of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).

The motto is “Cure White Scar, Cure Mind Scar.” Over the years, Dr. Su-Ben Tsao has focused on researching and developing treatments for white scars, accumulating thousands of successful cases. His proprietary “Microdermal Grafting for White Scar Color Regeneration” has benefited thousands of patients worldwide, with numerous white scar patients from both domestic and international locations seeking treatment in Taiwan each year.

Translational medicine involves linking basic medical research directly to clinical treatment, and “White Scar Color Regeneration” can be defined as translational medicine. It directly connects to clinical treatment, providing the highest quality of medical care. White scar patients can receive precise, delicate treatment, leading to healing and recovery.

After the easing of pandemic restrictions, there has been a continuous influx of international patients seeking white scar treatment in Taiwan. These patients include individuals like “Brain,” a young man of Indian descent residing in Scotland, who made four trips to Taiwan for treatment of facial trauma-related white scars since mid-November 2022.

Additionally, there was a teenage girl who came from the United States in early March for treatment of eyelid white scars left after cosmetic surgery, and a young woman from Hong Kong in mid-May to treat white scars on her arms resulting from self-harm years ago. In early August, a Japanese woman named Yoko came from Iceland, where she was studying and working, seeking treatment for prominent white scars on her face following tumor removal and skin grafting surgery. These are just a few examples.

According to Dr. Su-Ben Tsao’s clinic statistics from 2020 to August 2023, there have been a total of 297 domestic and 40 international white scar patients. The majority are female (274) while 63 are male. The most common treatment area is the face (246 cases), followed by the arms (81 cases) and other body parts (10 cases). White scars result from various causes, including trauma, cleft lip repair, self-harm, cosmetic surgery, and cesarean section, among others, serving as a reference for various fields.

In order to promote the internationalization of white scar treatment techniques, Dr. Su-Ben Tsao has presented papers at international medical conferences, demonstrated surgical techniques, and freely shared his years of dedicated research into White Scar Color Regeneration. His goal is to encourage doctors from around the world to come, learn, and take this technology back to their countries, benefiting more patients and reducing the unnecessary journeys of white scar patients. The ultimate goal is to make white scars invisible through treatment.

The establishment of the “International White Scar Center” serves as a platform for sharing the pioneering medical technology of White Scar Color Regeneration with white scar patients worldwide. This technique aims to eliminate white scars and bring new hope for treatment, especially for those troubled by emotional scars resulting from self-harm, accidents, cosmetic surgeries, cesarean sections, and more. Each year, on “International White Scar Day,” they commemorate Dr. Noordhoff’s birthday and call upon society to be aware of the emotional scars carried by white scar patients.

The logo for “International White Scar Day” focuses on the themes of “new life” and “rebirth.” It features the abbreviation “IWSC” (International White Scar Center) for quick recognition. The centerpiece is a bold, reversed “W” formed by two prominent Vs, emphasizing the concept of “White” representing a reversal or transformation of white scars, returning to a state of natural calmness. The primary color used is green, symbolizing nature, healing, and quality. White is incorporated to convey purity, simplicity, and honesty, representing the idea of healing and renewal, much like a rebirth.

Dr. Su-Ben Tsao emphasizes that white scars have a significant impact on the psychological well-being of those affected, often hindering their progress and confidence. Therefore, the announcement of the initiative on Teacher’s Day and the designation of June 29th as “International White Scar Day” carry the meaning of continuing the legacy of “Love makes whole.” The goal is to address white scars and emotional scars, allowing love to be passed on and ensuring that white scars are no longer a burden for individuals worldwide.
